PREVENTATIVE DENTAL CARE

PREVENTATIVE DENTAL CARE

Prevention is key to good oral health. That’s why it’s our primary focus at Royal Parade Dental.

It’s true that preventive dental care will keep your teeth healthy throughout the course of your life. But it goes beyond that. Good oral health can positively impact your general health as well.

SMILE!

Before getting intimate with your mouth, we’ll spend time getting to know you and your dental issues. We’ll take full digital x-rays (don’t worry, the radiation level is extremely low) and digital photos of your teeth and your smile before considering how it relates to your face.

We will thoroughly explain everything, from start to finish. But don’t worry about information overload in the first visit. You also have the option of a complimentary follow up consultation.

OUR COMMITMENT:

Your appointment will consist of a 60-minute, 20-point examination of  your mouth, gums, and teeth. We will take full digital x-rays and photos, and follow up with an optional, free 45-minute consultation during which we can plan your care together.

What to expect at your hygiene appointment:

  • A thorough clean of all of your teeth’s surfaces

  • Tartar and removal above and below the gum line

  • Light stain removal

  • Professional polishing of the tooth surfaces

  • Gum health evaluation

  • The use of Fluoride and natural ions to strengthen your teeth

  • Personalised dental hygiene instructions to maintain a healthy smile including advice regarding how diet impacts your dental health

  • Learn how to effectively care for your teeth at home

If you have gum disease, indicated by receding or detaching gums, we will refer you to our periodontist, Dr. Gabriel Roriguez, who practices just a few minutes away.

PREPARE FOR YOUR DENTAL APPOINTMENT

Arrive for your appointment a few minutes early and bring your insurance card and medical information. While it may seem irrelevant, a full medical history can be important since some medical conditions can lead to symptoms inside the mouth.

Much of your preventive dental care starts at home. Developing healthy dental habits early in life can help reduce cavities, gum disease, and gingivitis.1 Learn the basics of good oral health:

  • Brush your teeth at least twice a day (morning and night) using a soft bristled brush and Fluoride toothpaste. Your dentist will recommend the best toothbrush and toothpaste for you. And your dentist can also show you how to brush properly.

  • Floss daily to remove any food that’s stuck between your teeth before it turns into plaque

  • Use mouthwash to rinse out food particles after flossing

  • Avoid consuming too many acidic foods such as lemons or fruit juices as they can damage your tooth enamel

  • Be cautious with hard foods such as boiled candies, bones, and fruit seeds and pits, as they could damage or chip your teeth

  • Don’t smoke or use tobacco products as they can cause mouth cancer and other dental problems

  • Use a mouth guard when participating in rigorous sports

  • If you grind your teeth at night, ask your dentist for a nighttime mouth guard to help reduce gum recession

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF PREVENTIVE DENTISTRY?

Regular preventive dental exams benefit your oral health in many ways:

  • They lower your risk of developing tooth decay, gum disease, and more serious dental problems

  • They promote good oral hygiene habits

  • They enable early identification of problems.

  • They help reduce dental problems related to chronic medical conditions.

  • Early identification of dental problems may minimize treatment and cost

Diabetes, osteoporosis, certain cancers, and eating disorders can all negatively impact your dental and oral health. If you have a chronic condition, regular preventive dental care is an important part of holistic healthcare.
